I made an app
A daily check in ritual, turned into an app
For the last 6 months, I’ve been running a daily check in ritual with ChatGPT. It’s easily been my most useful AI use case by far.
Over time, I’ve hacked, tinkered with and refined the experience into something surprisingly powerful. It’s turned into more of a daily thinking system that helps me think more clearly, build self awareness, and do more of the things that actually matter.
It leads me through a three stage process.
In the first stage, through guided questioning, it helps me become more aware of how I’m feeling and what’s actually on my mind. It clears out a lot of internal noise. I’m always surprised by how much clearer and more grounded I feel afterwards.
In the second stage, it helps me reflect on yesterday. What worked and what didn’t. Where I’m being too hard on myself or am looking at something the wrong way. It has a very effective way of helping me see things more accurately, so I can recognise the good, and also take a small number of lessons forward.
And lastly, in the third stage, it helps me turn a messy brain dump of thoughts and intentions into a clear prioritised plan for the day. I love a good plan for the day. It helps reduce decisions, and makes getting stuff done easier.
More recently, I’ve started checking back in throughout the day too. This has been another game changer. I often hit obstacles, or drift off track. After a quick back and forth, I can reassess where I am, reprioritise, and restructure the rest of the day so I can still finish strong.
Ultimately, it’s become an interactive thinking partner that improves my thinking. And the best part is that the more I’ve used it, the more it has learned about me, which has made it only more effective over time.
I genuinely rarely miss my daily check in now and it’s become a cornerstone of my morning routine.
Introducing DayOS
All of this led me to an idea. I should build an app that recreates this experience so I could share it with family and friends.
So that’s exactly what I did using claude code. It’s called DayOS.
The app walks you through the same daily check in process above. At the end, it helps you create and save a plan for the day, that you can revisit whenever you need it. Over time, it also remembers key details about you, which makes the experience increasingly more personalised and useful.
I’d genuinely love for you to try it.
You can use it here: trydayos.com
A couple of tips:
You can type normally or use voice dictation, which makes it much faster. The native iPhone or Android mic is probably best.
It works best as a saved web app rather than in the browser.
To install it properly as a web app:
Open the link above in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android
Save it to your home screen
iPhone:
Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen
Android:
Chrome → 3 dots menu → Add to Home screen
Lastly, it’s probably best to try it for the first time in the morning. That’s when the check in process is most powerful.
I hope it’s as useful for you, as it’s been for me. Enjoy!
